Catsles
Japan has 12 original castles remaining, and was a project to paint them all as “cat-sles”!
Though there are many beautiful castles in Japan, you may not realize that many of them are reconstructions, since a large amount of Japan’s castles were lost to natural disaster, war, or even dismantled during the mid 1800s during the Meiji Restoration. There are only 12 remaining with the main keep being build during the Edo Period or before!
This project began after a visit to Himeji Castle, when I noticed that the roof structure resembled cat ears in places. I began to learn more about the remaining 12 structures, and paint them reimagined as cats.
